Newquay's Fleet

NRC have seven gigs, all held in trust for the club. All Newquay gigs are named after the old fish cellars used for salting and packaging of locally caught fish.

We are currently in the process of adding an eighth gig to this list, so watch this space!

Newquay Harbour, the three gigs in the foreground are, the Dove, Zoe Treffry and the Newqauy.

Newquay
Built in 1812 by William Peters, she is considered to be the oldest racing boat still in regular use. She is 30ft long and 4ft. 10in. In the beam.
Colour: Red with white pennant.
Dove
Built in 1820 by William Peters. She was built to be a faster gig than the Newquay, she has the same beam but is a foot longer (31ft) with much finer lines.
Colour: White with black pennant.
Treffry
Built in 1838 by William Peters. A fast gig used as a model for all modern gigs. She is 32ft in length, a foot longer than the Dove.
Colour: Blue with white pennant.
Active
Built in 1974 by Tom Chudleigh, Isles of Scilly. The first of the new generation of gigs modelled from the Treffry.
Colour: Orange with white pennant.
Good Intent
Built in 1975 by Tom Chudleigh.
Colour: Green with white pennant.
Speculation
Built in 1987 by Tom Chudleigh.
Colour: White with blue pennant.
Fly
Built in 1993 by Ralf Bird, Devoran. She was built to replace the gig Unity (renamed Hornet), which was sold to Yealm gig club. The Fly is Newquay's current race boat, used by representative crews.
